Die Antwoord, my new favorite thing
You can't be forced to like something. You either do or do not, especially when it comes to music.
Recently I had the pleasure of being introduced to a glorious disaster of a music group, known as 'Die Antwoord' (pronounced [di'ɑnt.ʋoːrt], Afrikaans for "The Answer")
A perfectly mixed sound of Techno/Rap/Rave originating from Cape Town, South Africa. Fronted by Ninja and Yo-landi Visser and backed by DJ Hi-Tek.
My first introduction was for their video for 'Fatty Boom Boom'
Admittedly I didn't take this seriously as the video seemed so outlandish that is was some type of parody. But then the music kicked in and totally felt...right. It took a bit to fully understand Yo-landi's style of high octave lyrics. It took listening to earlier tracks of theirs to fully appreciate her.
Here is the video for 'I Fink U Freeky'. It was this song that made me appreciate both Yo-landi and Ninja's styles.
Needless to say I had to get all the albums. Not all tracks are gems mind you. But mixed in mostly mediocre and just plain trash tracks, are absolute gold.
